What could possibly sum up my read of Face the Music by K.M. Neuhold? It is simply put. K.M. Neuhold reached into my soul, grabbed hold of it, and refused to let go. It’s very rare that a book grabs hold of me so hard that the very end just gives me the chills from the tip of my head to the bottom of my feet, but this book managed it quite easily. It was just amazing to read.
(Note: Please read trigger warning at beginning of the book. It is an intense read.)
What made it so amazing? The way the desolation, the anger, and all the other emotions just leaped off the page and dug in deep was truly mesmerizing. The book grabbed my attention from the get go and didn’t falter through the whole thing. I could truly feel how the main characters, Lincoln and Jace, really felt. It was heartbreakingly beautiful.
(The next paragraph includes spoilers, read at your own risk!)Maybe it’s because I have lived that pain, but the desolation that Lincoln feels within his soul and that high on the elation was just vividly explained. I could just nod my head and read on knowing exactly what he was feeling. I have seen that worry in other’s eyes that Jace had in his and just knew the fear he felt radiating when he would catch Lincoln down in his despair. It was a roller coaster ride of pure adrenaline and emotion and I do not want to get off. I need more and more of this story but there are those two little words “The End.” The lube conversations though had me rolling with laughter.
This book really stole my soul. If I wasn’t already a fan of K.M. Neuhold’s books, I would be now! It was simply an amazing read and I urge you, if you are an m/m reader or curious about them, pick this book up. You won’t be disappointed!
